Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the organization.

I’m Dave Roberts, the Founder of ReVerb. I do a lot of project management, editing for clients, and sales. My hobbies include learning other languages, powerlifting, and spending time with my family. I’ve lived in the USA, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Austria, and Costa Rica and traveled through and worked in 50 more countries. I speak Russian as a second language and shamelessly speak English with a Minnesotan accent.

What is the story behind starting this company?

ReVerb is a Digital Marketing Agency I founded around 2017. I work from Rochester, MN but most of the team works from other locations from their home office or favorite coffee shop.

It really came about as a process. Previously, I had been working as a marketing consultant with a variety of really cool tech companies and startups after my own Animation business in Tallinn, Estonia failed in 2012. After a while, I kept getting invited to speak at tech events, mentor at hackathons, and generally be more involved in the tech community. It was always a lot of fun and super interesting to be involved in the early stages of a new startup. It got kind of limiting to just work with one or two clients at a time. It also was the case that many companies just needed a few tasks here and there, such as localizing their texts in English or writing some sales emails. Eventually, I started hiring more staff to help keep up with demand. As of 2021 we’ve worked with about 800 different tech companies and startups mostly in Europe, Israel and Singapore.

We’re kind of like the secret weapon of some of the most successful companies in Eastern and Central Europe. For instance most of the“Unicorns” from Ukraine and Belarus have ongoing or have had relations with my company in some form or another.

What is your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?

We have an in-house team of content producers, ICO specialists, graphic designers, marketing experts, SEO specialists, and more. On the rare occasion, a client needs a service that we don’t yet provide, we hire for that immediately. Clients guide us on what services we need to be offering.

How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?

Our clients frequently become our friends as they come to rely on us for producing good results. And we genuinely care about their success, there have been more than a few holidays spent working with a client through one crisis or another. Over half of our clients have come through referrals from other clients as they feel safe knowing we’ll do a good job for them too. Clients place their trust in us to communicate their product and services to the rest of the world, meaning their company’s success often hinges on how well we do our job so we take that role very seriously.

We did have a Ukrainian client using a guy who worked in Ukraine as an English teacher to write and edit his texts. The client couldn’t understand why his texts were so poorly written. He thought hiring an assistant to his writer might be the solution. The client sought us out. We found the texts were written at maybe a 5th grade level with really poor grammar and limited vocabulary, and this American was taking advantage of his local friends by providing a poor service and charging too much. Not everyone who is a native English speaker, and happens to be in your country, is actually a good writer or editor. You’re better off trusting your texts with the experts(us!).

What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?

Tech is our bread and butter. That’s a pretty broad niche, but here we are. We also cooperate with numerous businesses from other sectors, starting from healthcare and ending with the pet industry.

Please share some of the services that you offer for which clients approach you the most for?

Localizing texts in English. I speak Russian as a second language after spending 2+ years in the Peace Corps in northern Kazakhstan, and my wife is from there. So when I read a text written in Russ-lish I can understand what they’re trying to say and make it clear for native English speakers. We also offer English copywriting with SEO which is hugely popular among our clients to make sure their service or product is explained perfectly for their target audience while bringing in traffic from search. Blockchain services including white paper writing are also hugely in demand again.

What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer’s needs and requirements?

LOL. Well Pretty high, I think we once received 4.5 stars out of 5 on another review website and that was the lowest ever. That was from a client who was doing it ironically to be the first non-5 star review.

To make sure clients are happy with our content, we allow them to ask for revisions after the copywriting is done. We then make the revisions asap. For edits, we use suggestions in Google Docs so all changes are tracked and they can rest assured that the meaning is kept.

For blockchain white papers, we typically take two weeks to write the paper out. Then we open it to revision requests from the client. We make the changes if any. Then we add the infographics and make any additional changes to the client requests. We stay in close contact with the client via Telegram chats.

What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?

They ping me on Skype, FB messenger, and Telegram, or shoot an email to me. We troubleshoot issues 24/7 as we have team members awake in each time zone.

What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)

We try to be flexible with clients on this, as they’re in different stages of development. We love cryptocurrency Fast transactions. Cheap and easy to convert to fiat as needed... Wise(formerly transfers) is really good nowadays with their low costs of same-day deposits. Payoneer is reliable but slow. PayPal works well but can be expensive for larger projects. Wire Transfer is ok, but the bank fees only make sense for projects over $1000. And.co and the card are fine but actually more expensive for us while taking a few days to hit our bank account.

We work on retainers. Payment upfront. It has been the case in working in Eastern Europe that a client may delay payment or “forget” to pay until they need our services again. To avoid that we insist on payment at the start.

Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If not, on what minimum budget you have worked for?

Big, fat, small, tall, we love them all. We take on all project sizes and scopes. Sometimes a client just needs a social media post edited, other times they need a whole marketing campaign crafted. It’s all good.

What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2020?

Our smallest projects go for 4 cents per word for edits, and our largest ones are blockchain white papers at $10,000. We’ve been loving the return of high BTC prices which has correlated with an increase in White Paper and blockchain-related content projects.

Where do you see your company in the next 10 years?

We’re expanding so much these days that our HR Manager is constantly on the hunt for new staff. So we’ll be expanding our team to meet these demands as we grow. We also have some good insight at this point into which companies will be successful in the long term and may start taking equity in these companies we identify early on to take a larger, more prominent role in their long-term success.
