Please provide your feedback on how Goodfirms has contributed to increasing your visibility among potential clients.
Given its status as a globally trusted review platform, Appify has leveraged Goodfirms to elevate our visibility and credibility amongst our business prospects and clients.
Please introduce your company and describe your role within the organization.
Appify is an Irish-based mobile app development agency, serving clients in Ireland, the UK, the US and Scandinavia. Our team is comprised of specialists across all functional areas of mobile app development, including AI, architecture, project management, design, development, testing and maintenance. Our service offering spans consulting, prototyping, custom app development and long-term product management. We offer both fixed price contracted services and time & materials-based engagements.
What inspired the founding of your company, and what is the story behind its inception?
Appify was founded as a merger of two existing businesses, an app development company and a sports marketing agency. Those two businesses collaborated to supply digital services for sports clubs, leagues, governing bodies, and sports sponsors. These projects included multiple app builds. It became increasingly obvious that significant opportunities also existed outside of sports. So, in 2019, Appify was born!
What are the core values and principles that drive your company's culture, and how do you ensure alignment with these values across your team?
We strive to deliver continuous value to all our stakeholders in the belief that they all represent essential elements of one interconnected ecosystem. So, we highly value our people, our suppliers and our clients.
We communicate openly to understand the objectives and goals of everyone involved. This allows us to have everyone pull in the same direction to create special and meaningful mobile solutions for our clients.
Can you highlight some of the key achievements or milestones your company has accomplished since its inception?
Since COVID, we have grown steadily year after year. We have not planned any exponential growth spurts because creating a coherent team ethos requires finding and nurturing special people. Our growth has been purely organic, founded on exceptional delivery and excellent client reviews.
Could you explain your company's business model? Do you primarily operate with an in-house team or utilize third-party vendors/outsourcing?
Almost 100% of our delivery teams are entirely in-house. Occasionally, it is appropriate to leverage other resources but, where possible, we recruit (hopefully) long-term team members rather than outsource.
How does your company differentiate itself from competitors in the industry?
Hopefully, our unique differentiators are clear from our approach, communications, and delivery models as already described. We are highly people-centric, from our staff to our clients.
We are also at the leading edge of AI adoption and implementation. This is increasingly facilitating the rapid development of both prototypes and market-ready solutions.
How would you describe the dynamics within your team, and how do you foster collaboration and teamwork to achieve common goals?
We do lots of things to engender collaboration and teamwork. As a team, we interact both professionally and socially, creating a strong team ethic.
We survey our staff to ensure that we are doing the right things to support them individually and collectively. Where there are specific, shared recommendations from our people, we make all reasonable efforts to act upon them.
Our new hires are often friends of existing team members, which helps us integrate new people quickly and seamlessly.
What measures do you take to support the professional development and growth of your employees? Do you offer training programs or opportunities for skill enhancement?
Yes, we do. Where team members have specific requests for professional development courses, materials, or events that align with company objectives, we try to provide the time and support necessary to facilitate.
We also advocate for peer-to-peer learning. For example, we have team members who are proactively adopting cutting-edge AI technologies. We are arranging internal workshops to encourage knowledge transfer so that all team members can grow their knowledge in a team setting.
Could you share a notable success story or case study that exemplifies the impact your company has had on a client's business?
As a group, we love building apps that drive some power for good. It’s great building commercial apps, but developing apps that positively impact people’s lives is particularly rewarding.
Recently, we built mental health support apps for a new tech start-up. The promoter is personally acquainted with some of the challenges that the app was designed to assist with. He was well placed to ideate practical, mobile tech-facilitated interventions to address potentially harmful mental health scenarios.
Together, we helped design user interfaces, journeys and experiences that would bring his ideas to life in a mobile application. Then we developed the apps, submitted them to test groups, and then published them in the app stores.
The project has been an enormous success. The apps already have hundreds of thousands of downloads, are very highly rated by users in the app stores and have attracted sponsorships from global brands.
What industries do you primarily cater to, and do you have a significant percentage of repeat clients? If so, what is the ratio of repeat clients?
We are somewhat industry agnostic and have worked with ambitious start-ups, SMEs, brands and enterprises in multiple verticals. We have done a lot of work in sports tech and health tech in particular, though.
About 40% of our business each year is with new clients. 60% tends to be repeat business or retained services agreements with existing customers.
What initiatives does your company undertake to foster innovation and stay at the forefront of industry trends? Do you invest in research and development projects?
It is increasingly important to stay ahead of technological innovation to remain relevant and maximise the value proposition for our clients. Obviously AI is key. Other emerging technologies, such as AR/VR, Internet of Things, wearable technologies, voice recognition, and gesture-based response, are all increasingly prevalent.
We use internal and external training and development solutions to keep our leadership and staff conversant with new technologies, particularly AI.
Please share some of the most sought-after services that clients approach your company for.
The most sought-after services are mobile product consulting, prototype development, mobile application development, specialist team outsourcing, and service level agreements.
How do you build and maintain strong relationships with your clients, and what mechanisms do you have in place for gathering and acting upon client feedback?
We tend to develop strong relationships with clients because of the levels of communication and interaction. In fact, I was invited to two clients’ weddings last year!
We seek client appraisals and reviews at the end of each project in case there is anything in particular that we need to improve upon.
How has your company adapted to changes and challenges in the business landscape, and what strategies have you employed to ensure resilience and sustainability?
It is important to be up to date with evolving market circumstances and to be flexible in approach to the delivery of solutions and value.
Given the pace of technological advancement, the training and development plans that we have implemented are increasingly important.
What payment structure do you typically follow when billing clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, or Pay per Milestone (phases, months, versions, etc.)?
This depends on the clients’ requirements. Where there is a highly defined Scope of Work, we can work with fixed price contracts. Where requirements are undefined, or the client simply wants access to full-time team members, we usually charge for time and materials.
Do you accept projects that meet your basic budget requirements? If yes, what is the minimum budget requirement? If no, what is the minimum budget you have worked with in the past?
Typically, basic prototyping with design and clickable wireframes starts from €5,000.
Can you provide an overview of the price range (minimum and maximum) of the projects your company worked on in 2024?
Prices ranged from €5,000 for prototyping projects to €100,000 for highly complex projects.
What technological capabilities does your company possess, and are there any ongoing or planned investments in technology infrastructure or tools to enhance your services?
We have an ever-expanding range of in-house capabilities. We provide specialist consulting, design, development, testing, and maintenance services.
In terms of development, we offer both native and hybrid tech stack solutions. We also have extensive experience with third party tooling across user verification and login, database, payments integrations, chat and messaging solutions, live mapping and location services, push notification services and other.
We are also leaders in AI adoption and implementation. More and more of our delivery processes and mobile products rely on leading-edge AI.
Where do you envision your company in the next 10 years? What are your long-term goals and aspirations for growth and development?
We aim to remain at the vanguard of mobile technology advancement in order to maximise the value proposition we offer to our clients. The more value we can deliver, the better we can reward our people for their expertise and dedication.
