Ola Cabs had witnessed immense customer base expansion, but the maintenance had taken a backseat and there was a need to improve their technology to ensure a robust, well-performing codebase. After five years of fast-paced development where maintenance took a back seat, some cracks were starting to show, and they asked us to evaluate possibilities for improving their technology.

We focused on their Android-based Driver platform and helped rebuild it from scratch. We helped them utilise their own team, choose a modern architecture, implement best practices, conducted training workshops to supply a fresh approach and made radical improvements in their engineering processes.

We gave Ola a well-documented case for how to proceed with engineering techniques as well as practices that could become key factors for success in the long run. Ola received an external perspective on how to increase the robustness of their platform, and we enjoyed coaching the team on maintaining large and complex legacy codebases.

The India Hypertension Management Initiative (IHMI) and Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) joined hands on a project to reduce deaths caused by hypertension. RTSL had already developed a high-fidelity prototype for primary healthcare workers to manage BP measurements and appointments. However, they were facing roadblocks to provide effective, low-cost treatment at scale and efficiently monitor hypertension to avoid escalation.

After testing the idea in Punjab and realising its merit, we decided to extensive user research at every stage. We layered on details and better visuals on our prototype to recalibrate the product with our best practices. We then engineered a front-end only, “seemingly real” app to conduct user tests and took data from our best experiments to create an actual app. We paired this with a dashboard to give health system managers the feedback they need to improve BP control across their facilities.

Simple is projected to save over 100M lives over the next 10 years. Designed and engineered by our small team, it is the largest thin sliced EMR in India. It is completely open source so that governments in other countries can adopt it easily. In 2020, it won the “Best in Show” category at the Interaction Design Awards.

Simple will be launching in Bangladesh, Ethiopia and 2 new Indian states this year.

Gojek’s driver fleet responsible for rendering six different services witnessed exponential growth, going from just 2,000 to 250,000+ drivers in a year. To keep up with the service offerings, size and cater to drivers who were first-time internet users, Gojek needed a reliable yet scalable design for its ever-changing app.

To reduce the average order fulfilment time by reducing the time spent by the drivers during the journey by switching quickly from overall journey to current leg view, removal of blocking UX patterns that could be a result of poor internet connection and to automate background processes. To simplify this complex app, we resolved the problem of information overload by keeping it to a bare minimum, without eliminating critical, decision-making aspects. To prevent accidental clicks, we chose the slider interaction for positive CTAs on almost every screen of the app.

Although the new app was designed for Go-Jek drivers, it dramatically improved the experience for consumers by the improving business goals of faster order acceptance and order completion as well as reducing order cancellation rates dramatically.

Wikipedia has been the go-to source for general information on the internet. However, the team wanted to expand their adoption, engagement and retention rates in emerging markets to deliver a holistic and compelling experience, as well as attract new readers and editors.

We ran multiple rounds of sprints and relays, in Indore and Varanasi to get feedback. We concluded that Wikipedia's browsing experience needed to feel less long form and more “snackable”. We then designed and built out a proof of concept mobile site that went live on the web to test our hypothesis. It was released in tandem with the T20 Cricket World Cup and contained articles on the various players, teams and countries, and information on host cities and tournaments. We built this site using state of the art mobile web frameworks, and helped to compile the content for the site in multiple languages.
