Blueberry Consultants is a private limited Custom Software Development Company, established in early 1997. Blueberry is an expert in Microsoft technologies and has been a Microsoft Partner for a number of years – as well as an Amazon Web Services specialist. We’re justifiably proud of the team we’ve assembled. Initially numbering just two programmers, Blueberry has grown steadily and now has over 50 full-time developers.

The Blueberry team is made up of highly qualified, talented, and innovative IT professionals each with their own area of expertise. Their experience spans the full range of custom software development, from small entrepreneurial projects to complex systems for major corporations.

Our mission is to fully understand the business needs of our clients and use the latest technology to make our clients' businesses more profitable. In our experience, working together consistently results in creating intelligent solutions to meet our client’s evolving business demands. This collaborative style of working has resulted in the development of award-winning software.

I am the CEO and owner of Blueberry, and take an active role in all projects. In my role, I am responsible for setting the strategic direction of the company, ensuring that our growth aligns with our core values of innovation, customer satisfaction, and technical excellence.

What inspired the founding of your company, and what is the story behind its inception?

I founded Blueberry Consultants in 1997. Software development – and the creation of new products and companies – has been central to my life and career. I started programming on small microcomputers while at school, and after university established a game development company, ATD, which employed 35 people by the time I left to start Blueberry. I have been directly involved in the creation of many other start-up companies and am a director of two other UK technology companies - Blueberry Software and Blueberry Health. I believe that quality software development can make people’s lives easier, and I take a passionate interest in all Blueberry projects.

What are the core values and principles that drive your company's culture, and how do you ensure alignment with these values across your team?

Blueberry's core values and principles are to understand the business needs of our clients, and how we can use cutting-edge technology to make modern businesses more profitable. We strive for excellence in all aspects of our business. By operating with integrity, transparency, and a strong sense of accountability, we ensure the highest quality of services for our clients. Our team members take ownership of their responsibilities, working collaboratively to achieve collective goals and exceed client expectations.

Can you highlight some of the key achievements or milestones your company has accomplished since its inception?

Since its inception, Blueberry has accomplished significant milestones that demonstrate our expertise and ability to improve client business performance. We've grown our talent pool of software developers and project managers over 25 years and attained critical certifications - particularly in the health sector and the NHS - that confirm our adherence to the highest service standards.

Could you explain your company's business model? Do you primarily operate with an in-house team or utilize third-party vendors/outsourcing?

Blueberry Consultants is a private limited Custom Software Development Company with its own in-house team of software developers and project managers. We do not outsource to any other third party - we maintain complete in-house control over every stage of the development process. Our objective has always been to retain and develop the best talent within our company so every client requirement and challenge can be met with a talented team by their side.

How does your company differentiate itself from competitors in the industry?

We differentiate ourselves from competitors based on trust, commitment to excellence, and delivering a positive client experience. Our exceptionally deep technical expertise allows us to take on projects often perceived as too complex or difficult by other developers. Having served the development industry since 1997, we have established ourselves as one of the most reliable software partners in the UK.

Finally, we’re frequently told by clients that we’re really nice people… easy to get along with… a joy to work with. This is exactly what we hoped for when Blueberry was first formed in 1997. Our staff have been with us a long time, some from the very beginning, and we enjoy working in partnership with our clients.

We believe in working in partnership with our clients to understand their unique needs and working methods. We value creativity and collaboration; ideas are shared and everybody contributes on an individual basis to the common goal. We create new teams for each project, ensuring the best possible combination of skills and experience to meet the client’s needs and deliver high-quality solutions.

What measures do you take to support the professional development and growth of your employees? Do you offer training programs or opportunities for skill enhancement?

We are committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. Our team members benefit from regular team meetings, training programs on emerging technologies, skill-building workshops, and opportunities to share knowledge with their peers.

Could you share a notable success story or case study that exemplifies the impact your company has had on a client's business?

There are so many. One notable success was a prescription medication app that we designed for a client. The app integrates with the NHS Electronic Prescription Service and is easy to understand and use, secure, and reliable. It was ultimately acquired by another company in a multi-million-pound deal.

How do you build and maintain strong relationships with your clients, and what mechanisms do you have in place for gathering and acting upon client feedback?

We use a collaborative in-house customer project tracking system, built to enhance the customer experience. The portal is a secure web application that allows clients to interact with project managers who are working on their projects. It provides a single point of access, where customers can track project progress – providing details of tasks and issues related to the project.

How has your company adapted to changes and challenges in the business landscape, and what strategies have you employed to ensure resilience and sustainability?

We build custom software solutions that grow businesses for the future. We therefore invest in continuously upgrading our technological capabilities and service offerings to address emerging client needs. We also offer accelerated application delivery using our own BBWT framework for building secure, bespoke web and cloud applications to best practice standards.

What payment structure do you typically follow when billing clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, or Pay per Milestone (phases, months, versions, etc.)?

Normally we ask customers to pay in stages, with each payment due against some development milestone.

Do you accept projects that meet your basic budget requirements? If yes, what is the minimum budget requirement? If no, what is the minimum budget you have worked with in the past?

We normally take on projects that have a minimum budget of £10,000.

Can you provide an overview of the price range (minimum and maximum) of the projects your company worked on in 2023?

Pricing depends on the project’s scope and complexity. We’ve worked on projects from £10,000 to over £500,000.

What technological capabilities does your company possess, and are there any ongoing or planned investments in technology infrastructure or tools to enhance your services?

Software engineering evolves at an incredible pace, with new technologies and methodologies appearing constantly. A key part of our job is staying on top of that – so while we can draw on the deep knowledge and experience from being in business for over 25 years, we continually stay at the forefront of emerging technologies.

Where do you envision your company in the next 10 years? What are your long-term goals and aspirations for growth and development?

Our long-term vision is to expand into new emerging markets and enhance our capabilities to better serve our clients. We aim to grow our team to deliver optimal solutions and exceptional value using the latest advances in technology.
