Scope:

A gamified scavenger hunt using QR codes to encourage public engagement with Metro Vancouver’s event space at the PNE, offering an innovative solution for increasing visitor interaction and data collection.

BRIEF:

The QR Code Scavenger Hunt Game was designed to ensure equal visibility for all nine departments within Metro Vancouver during their event at the PNE. Visitors were invited to explore the space and locate QR codes associated with each department. Scanning a code prompted them to answer an educational question related to the department. Correct answers earned participants entries into a prize draw to win an electric bike, with additional entries awarded for completing the full scavenger hunt. This incentive-driven approach motivated visitors to interact with every part of the event space while learning about Metro Vancouver’s initiatives.

Considerations:

Ensuring the QR code placement was intuitive and distributed evenly throughout the event space to encourage full exploration.

Designing an accessible and user-friendly interface for scanning and answering questions.

Creating a real-time reporting platform to provide up-to-date insights on visitor engagement and answer accuracy.

Collecting data ethically while ensuring privacy compliance for email capture and participant tracking.

Building a scalable system that could be easily customized for future events, regardless of industry or size.

Print form:

To ensure the QR Code Scavenger Hunt Game was accessible to all participants, we designed a printed form as an alternative to the digital experience. The form included the same questions tied to the QR codes, allowing visitors who preferred or required a non-digital option to engage with the scavenger hunt.

Live reporting:

The game also included real-time reporting, enabling the client to track QR scans, correct and incorrect answers, and collect email addresses for future outreach. The software’s adaptability opens opportunities for use at other events, creating a dynamic way to enhance attendee engagement.

Scope:

life-sized print of a tunnel boring machine enhanced with custom LED lighting, designed to serve as a captivating centerpiece at Metro Vancouver’s event space at the PNE.

BRIEF:

For Metro Vancouver’s event space at the PNE, we created a life-sized print of a tunnel boring machine to showcase the impressive scale and advanced technology of these engineering marvels. This display features integrated custom-programmed LED lights that simulate the spinning motion of the machine, adding a dynamic and eye-catching element. Designed with durable materials, the installation is built to withstand transport, setup, and repeated use, ensuring it remains a highlight of Metro Vancouver’s event presence.

Considerations:

Selecting durable materials to ensure longevity and maintain quality through repeated installations.

Seamlessly integrating LED lighting to create a smooth and realistic spinning effect without detracting from the design.

Designing the display for portability and ease of setup, enabling efficient transport and installation at the PNE and other venues.

Ensuring the print accurately reflects the scale and intricacy of a real tunnel boring machine for maximum visual and educational impact.

Process:

Our 3D modeling process combines precision and creativity, allowing us to bring complex concepts to life in a visually compelling way. Starting with detailed client insights and sketches, our team crafts each element of the activation in a digital 3D space, refining the design to ensure structural integrity and visual impact. This process enables us to preview and perfect every detail before production, ensuring the final activation captures both the intended functionality and aesthetic. The result is a meticulously designed model that serves as a blueprint for fabrication, aligning seamlessly with the project’s vision and enhancing the viewer's immersive experience.

BRIEF:

Our collaboration with Finnley Studio focused on crafting a brand identity that reflects their reliability, simplicity, and authenticity in the industrial design and fabrication space. Through a detailed trend analysis, we identified the need to stand out from competitors by avoiding generic design elements, such as excessive text and stock imagery. The final deliverables included a clean, modern logo with angular, geometric influences to subtly echo construction and architecture, paired with a cohesive, monotone color palette that lets the company’s work shine. The result is a professional yet approachable visual identity that aligns with Finnley Studio’s core values.

Considerations:

  • Emphasize design elements appealing to architectural and industrial design clients.
  • Avoid literal imagery, creating a more timeless and abstract aesthetic.
