Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
I am a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, CEO of Design and Test Lab and Founder of First Institute of Reliable Software, Consultant to CEO, and owner of different IT companies. My goal is to make the world a better place by promoting reliable software development practices. Design and Test Lab offers software development services to entrepreneurs and small businesses, start-ups, and established companies. We specialize in web and mobile development and have successfully developed more than 100 products, MVPs, and platforms for iOS, Android, and web. But we don’t just write code; we help our clients to build better products by walking every step along the way and helping to refine the vision and maximize chances for success.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
The main idea was not just to earn money, but to build a software engineering company with best engineering practices. And then, eventually, make this job the job of my life.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We provide in-house software, development teams. We work both for hourly-based projects and fixed-price projects, where we take full responsibility for business analysis, UX design, project management, software design, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
Our software engineers necessarily cover the software applications with automated tests and also carry out the necessary code-review procedure to make sure the source codes are correct. It brings to the high quality of the product, fast time to market, higher performance, project completed on time, project costs saved, satisfied end-users, strong marketing positioning, reliable business growth. With this level of dedication to software engineering practices, the client gets a highly-reliable software solution, with very minimal cost of maintenance and support.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
The most successful projects were in Automotive IoT, Entertainment, and E-commerce industries. We have several projects from the same customers, and some customers made an order because of excellent recommendations.

Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
It depends on the business model of the customers and their goals. If they need the app as an additional channel for clients to sell services, we propose Android to cover more audience. But if all their services based only on the mobile app, we suggest IOS because it brings more revenue in terms of the mobile app.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
It is based on business needs and if there are no demands to difficult calculations we usually propose Hybrid platform, but as a rule, Native brings better results according to user experience.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
We take into account: the number of working hours needed to build the app successfully, risks involved with applying some third-party technologies.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We work on hourly-based projects with payments once per month. Also, we work on fixed-scope-fixed-price projects with milestone-based payments.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Typically, we work with projects starting 10 000 USD.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
Starting from 8000 USD and up to 250 000 USD.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
We recommend a fixed-price-fixed-scope model because we give a guarantee that the client will get a reliable mobile app, and we will not ask for a dollar more. Plus, testing and bug-fixing is already included in our fixed-price-fixed-scope projects.
