Executive Interview of getyoteam

Kumar Katariya
CEO
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
We are a Top Rated Mobile Application development company based in Gujarat, India. We exclusively work on the Native iOS/Android application development. We got a very good experience working on the IoT based, Bluetooth, GPS based mobile apps. We have worked with the well-known brand like Hafslund, bill.com, BALANCE Edutainment, Wago, LinkUni etc.
Being the CEO of the startup company, I have to take care of the Sales/Marketing of the company, manage revenue, expenses and external financing to maintain the consistent growth of the business, building an in-house team, managing the brand and day to day activities of the company.

What was the idea behind starting this organization?
When I was working for one of the biggest IT company in India as a Sales Consultant, I noticed, mostly they failed to deliver the project on time and that used to be very frustrating for the clients and as a sales consultant I used to feel very bad for them. I really wanted to fix this problem and identify the reasons as for why all the time it gets delayed. Thus, I started a company with the vision that my client should not only get the supreme quality apps but also on given timeline and that’s what we have been achieving for last 2.5 years. We have an outstanding track record of delivering the 98% projects on time with pleasing feedbacks from our clients.
Moreover, I have seen that sometimes less skilled developers being assigned to the client on dedicated position, however, due to poor coding skill, lack of relevant experience and knowledge clients get disappointed and never return to the company. We are screening the candidates and conducting the technical round of interview of all of the experienced developers prior to assigning them to the client to make sure they possess the relevant skills which client is looking for. We give them one month of free replacement.

What are your company’s business model–in-house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
Both, I have most experienced developers for various technologies apart from iOS and Android such as .NET, Java, SharePoint, AI, Machine Learning, Data Scientist etc. I am assigning these supremely talented developers to my clients or consultant who is looking for the skilled resource dedicatedly on the hourly model. Whereas, when I get the fixed cost project then I am assigning those projects to my in-house team. Thus I do have both remote developers and in-house developers.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
We see design a little differently. To us, creating a design is like two people working on a painting at the same time. Both of you want the painting to come out looking like a masterpiece, both of you want to create something beautiful but there’s a huge communication gap there. After all, you are two very different people, with different visions. Yes, we’re masters at design work, but where we really excel, where we really shine is taking your ideas and interpreting them — understanding them and translating them onto the page, using our expertise, so that the end result looks like it has not come from two people but directly from your imagination. It almost seems to be an extension of your creativity. Moreover, when we are assigning the resource to the client we make sure that resource possesses all the skills required by the client. Also, we make sure to take their couple of rounds of the interview prior to assign them to the client.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
We work with almost all the industries that need a native mobile application such as real estate, sales, marketing, finance, bank, chemical etc. Yes, our customers are repetitive in order to maintain the existing application, fix any errors or bugs, enhancement or up-gradation etc. Our 40%-50% clients are repetitive.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app
Complexity, Size and Relevant experience of the project are the key parameters critical in determining the time frame of the mobile application.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
That totally depends upon the features/scope of the application. Also, it is based on the backend technology whether it’s PHP, Java, .NET, Firebase or other. However, backend usually takes more efforts and time than the frontend.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
There are various important parameters such as Target audience, Demographics, Timeline and budget of the application. For example when the client does not have sufficient budget and needs to get the app done in quick around time then we suggest them React native which is a cross-platform technology.
Which platform do you suggest your clients, to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
Again that depends on the target audience and demographics. However, we suggest the clients get it developed on iOS first as it is quicker, easier and little cheaper than Android, but every project is unique and vision is different thus we conduct a deep analysis of the project and based on it we create our strategy about platform first approach, monetization, business model etc.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
We recommend only Native programming for mobile application development due to some advantages such as code runs faster and better, they work better with the device’s (camera, microphone, compass, accelerometer and swipe gestures) functionalities, integrating new features is quick and easy, everything hardware-related like gestures, multi-touch events, and geo-location tracking is much easier to implement with native technologies. Hence, we can say that native apps are your best chance at accommodating platform-specific user experiences.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
Cost of mobile application depends on the platform you choose, also the type and features of the application such as whether it’s a dynamic app or standalone or gaming app and complexity of the features in it, resources required to deliver the apps on time etc.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
Currently, we are working on the two kinds of payment structure; Fixed model & Hourly model/Dedicated model. In fixed model, we get the requirements from the client and confirm the scope of the project and get it delivered on time. In the fixed cost, we create the various payment/tasks milestones as soon as we achieve a milestone we raise the invoice.
In the Hourly model, we assign dedicated resources/whole team to the client and he/she can get the work done by them as per their time zone. In this model, we use time tracker which tracks the work of the team and the hours they have spent on the project and client needs to pay those hours on weekly basis.

Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
For us, size of the project is not of much importance if something excites us and if we are interested then we are doing it even if the project is of $1000. We have taken the augmented reality object detection POC project at only $1200.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2016?
My smallest project was around $5600 and biggest project was of around $80,000.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
There are various models we can suggest to our clients depending on the company, brand and various other strategies. However, we generally suggest going with an in-app purchase which is the biggest driver of the app revenue and then Freemium, Subscriptions etc.
