Kindly share your feedback on how GoodFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.
GoodFirms has increased our company's visibility by about 25%, which is good. We often get inquiries from potential clients who point to GoodFirms as to where they first heard about us.
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the organization.
KROM systems is a development shop that works with businesses and start-ups to develop the tech products that they need. We create mobile applications on Android and iOS, desktop systems, and responsive web systems.

We believe in helping the clients develop and validate an idea before embarking on its implementation. We also strive to have a lasting impact on the value of our client's businesses.

I am a co-founder and the CEO of the company. My job entails overseeing most of the projects, talking to clients, and providing direction for the company's growth.
What is the story behind starting this company?
I have always known that employment is not for me as I find it to be very limiting. I like seeing the big picture and understanding how the role I play contributes to achieving the ultimate goal. I couldn't find this in employment.

The solution to my yearning for self-direction and independence was to start my own company. Fortunately, I found a partner who shared my sentiments about being self-employed, and we decided to start our company. That is how KROM Systems, which is an acronym for our names, was born.

Apart from that, we also found a massive gap in the market with regard to UI/UX designs. Most tech products, while having good infrastructure and excellent performance, were simply not alluring to users. Not only were they unappealing to the eyes, but navigation was also a problem.

We decided to create custom solutions for businesses, with a particular focus on making the products pleasant to look at and easy for users to navigate. We pay close attention to how users interact with our systems, making the products navigable even for persons living with a disability.
What are your company's business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We are an in-house team with a core team of five people. However, the number of people working on a project can vary widely depending on the complexity of the task. Sometimes, we can have up to 15 people working on the same project.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
The overarching goal for our company is to ensure that we exceed our clients' expectations. We strive to achieve this by listening and constantly communicating with them. After all, we can only meet clients' expectations if we know what they are in the first place. This ensures that the project is tailor-made to meet every business or organizational need.

By prioritizing efficient communication, we have set ourselves apart from most tech companies in Kenya. The leading complaint we get from our customers is that their former tech service provider did not listen to their needs or did not provide regular updates on the project's status. Consequently, the end product turned out differently from what the customer expected. This is precisely what we try to avoid when working with our clients.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
Our portfolio is diverse since we cater to a myriad of industries. So far, we have created an NGO system, health systems, and agricultural systems, to mention a few. We do not limit our services to one sector since tech cuts across all industries.

Our clients are somewhat repetitive, seeing that 60% of our business comes from repeat customers. Once we work for a client, they always come back for more.
Please share some of the services that you offer for which clients approach you the most for?
KROM Systems offers web application design and development, branding, and mobile application development. These are some of the most sought-after services in the Kenyan market.
What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer's needs and requirements?
Customer satisfaction is the raison d'etre for our business. We take keen measures to ensure that we deliver quality products which will make our clients happy.

We use the AGILE development methodology in all our projects. We start by paying listening keenly to our clients as they describe the product they want. We then do the requirement analysis of the project, seek their approval, then go to work on creating the product. We use short sprints to assure feedback is continuous and act promptly on any suggestions for improvement that the client may have.
What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
We have a business line that is open from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Our clients can call or text us through this line.

We also have regular meetings with our clients at the end of every sprint where we update them on the progress of their project and address any concerns they might have.

Prospective clients can also initiate contact with us by filling out a form on our website.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
Our payment structure varies depending on a clients' specific needs. For complex projects with numerous features, we agree with the client whether paying per feature or per milestone would work best.

For short tasks that can be completed within two weeks, we opt for a fixed figure paid in two installments: a deposit first then the final payment.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
We operate on a minimum budget requirement because we provide custom software products for clients, which typically requires us to create the product from scratch. We tend to choose projects that have a budget of $2000 dollars and above.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects you catered to in 2020?
The minimum project budget for 2020 was $3000, while $25000 was the maximum.
Where do you see your company in the next 10 years?
I see KROM Systems as a household name, known for quality products and recognizable by people not just in the tech industry. I want people, whether in Kenya, East Africa, or Africa, to think first of KROM Systems when they think of systems. That is the brand we are building.
