“Though growing pains caused QC backlogs, Lifewood’s resilience yielded a strong partnership.”
Working with Lifewood on the South Africa Department of Defence project was a solid, productive experience. As a new initiative for both FamilySearch and Lifewood, we faced initial growing pains, but their team showed real resilience handling tough local conditions—power outages, network disruptions, and space constraints—by reorganizing workflows to keep production moving. They captured over 4.4 million World War II Medical File images. The main issue is quality control: a persistent backlog of validation errors has lingered for nearly a year and needs clearing. Communication could also improve—right now updates focus mainly on major issues, but routine visibility into smaller technical fixes and error tracking would help. Tighter QC processes during high-volume capture would prevent errors from accumulating in the first place.
