I'm Dmitrii Kustov, and I'm the founder and Marketing Director of Regex SEO. Regex SEO is a Houston-based Internet Marketing company founded by a group of seasoned professionals with extensive experience in the digital marketing arena. Our core mission is to provide a transparent and no-nonsense approach to Internet Marketing, SEO services, and online marketing campaigns. At Regex SEO, we offer a wide range of services, including SEO consulting, SEO engineering, web design, PPC (Pay per click / Google AdWords), content creation, social media marketing, email marketing, and branding.
What is the story behind starting this company?
The inception of Regex SEO is a story of resilience and adaptation. Initially a PHP developer, I was thrust into the world of SEO while working at a digital agency in the US. Determined to succeed, I embraced the challenge and eventually managed the agency's marketing department.

In 2015, I ventured out on my own, helping a local vet clinic with their SEO needs. Collaborating with friends who had a web design company, we found a perfect synergy—SEO in exchange for design work. Recognizing our potential, we merged into one company.

Three years later, in 2018, we formalized the partnership, and Regex SEO began its journey of growth. Today, with 36 full-time employees, 30+ contractors, and an annual revenue exceeding $1 million, we continue to thrive, fueled by our passion for digital marketing and dedication to our clients' success.
What are your company’s business model–in-house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
Our business model at Regex SEO primarily relies on an in-house team. We've cultivated a skilled and dedicated team of 36 full-time employees who handle various aspects of digital marketing, SEO, and related services. This in-house expertise allows us to maintain a high level of quality control and responsiveness to our client's needs.

However, we also complement our in-house capabilities by collaborating with over 30 trusted contractors for specific projects and tasks, particularly in content creation. This hybrid approach enables us to deliver comprehensive solutions while ensuring flexibility and scalability as our business continues to grow.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?

These industries collectively make up 80% of our clientele, showcasing our deep expertise and specialization in serving businesses within these fields.

In addition to our strong presence in these sectors, we have had the privilege of working with clients from a diverse range of industries. This includes the e-commerce sector, plastic surgeons, doors and windows manufacturers, veterinary pharmacies, law firms, medical equipment providers, coworking spaces, and real estate brokers.

Regarding repeat customers, a significant portion of our clients have been with us for the long term, demonstrating their satisfaction and trust in our services.

Initially, most clients seek our expertise in SEO services. This is often the first step in enhancing their online presence and visibility.

As we engage with our clients and conduct in-depth analyses of their online presence, we evaluate whether a website redesign is necessary or if improving the quality of their content would suffice. This holistic approach ensures that our clients receive a comprehensive solution that addresses their unique requirements.

Beyond SEO and website optimization, a significant number of our clients also request our assistance with PPC advertising. Additionally, we offer email marketing services to clients who require effective communication and engagement strategies with their audience.

In essence, our approach is client-centric, and we provide a variety of services, including SEO, website redesign, content improvement, branding, PPC management, and email marketing, based on the individual needs and goals of our valued clients.

We offer prepaid retainer options for most of our services (excluding PCC). The monthly retainer amounts are customized based on the specific services required, allowing clients to access ongoing support and services. For any work that falls outside the initial project scope, we bill clients on an hourly basis. The hourly rates vary depending on the complexity of the task.

PCC services come with versatile billing options to suit our client's preferences and needs. Clients can opt for PCC within a prepaid budget, allowing for clear cost control and budget management. Additionally, for any customization or specialized work required within PCC campaigns, we offer hourly rates. However, it's important to note that projects at this budget level are typically smaller in scope and our team's involvement may be limited to less than 8 hours of work per month. These projects are designed to cater to specific needs and objectives, and we ensure that even with a modest budget, our clients receive the necessary attention and support to achieve their goals. Our aim is to provide flexibility in our services to accommodate a wide range of client needs, from smaller projects to larger, more comprehensive endeavors.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2022?
In 2022, the price range for the projects we catered to varied based on the specific services and scope of work required by our clients. Our out-of-scope hourly rates ranged from a minimum of $125 per hour to a maximum of $160 per hour. Additionally, we offered prepaid retainers for all services except PCC.

The monthly prepaid retainer amounts for our services typically start at a minimum of $1,000. However, the final retainer amount could exceed $10,000, depending on the scope of services agreed upon during the onboarding stage. The specific services needed for each project were determined based on the goals and data we had about the client's business.
