Vlad and Lucy have the best team for the money. Competent and flexible. They also hold to keep scope creep under control and don't need micromanagement. So often, when companies don't know what they need or why they need it they (those companies) lose money as they are at the mercy of demand. Without Lucy, this project would have run out of money. Without Vlad's leadership and commitment to keeping good developers and designers on staff, I would have lost. I didn't. I won. You will too if you choose this talented team. They communicate well and understand it's all about People, Process first to create the best Product in the shortest amount of time with the highest amount of quality. We gave them a unicorn and they made it. Who else can do that? Who else will do that? Nothing but the highest regard for this team of professionals and look forward to a very long relationship in 2019 as we build out our entire platform. -Eric Wilson, CEO TRIAVE, LLC, a Florida based mobile software company.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

Communication, Speed, Accountability, Talent, and they care (very rare in this industry) about your Product

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

They need more clients in order to expand their methodology, only time will help them with that

We had a wonderful experience working with Riseapps. They really walked us through a process from design to app development, through to deployment. They displayed a high degree of professionalism and technical aptitude during all aspects of app development.

Most importantly, they were very flexible and willing to work with us without making us feel like every little request we made would result in major increases in cost. This was especially true towards the end of our project when funding was a real issue for us - Vladlen was more than willing to work with us to make sure we all ended up happy.

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

- tech knowledge - design competence - tech flexibility

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

I do think it's important to make sure you review where the project stands every 2-4 weeks. We held off for too long on having a re-estimate/overview to make sure we were still on track. I think Rise could do a better job of guiding clients, but we also could have been more on top of it ourselves.

Consultancy Happens APP

Review Riseapps

Our company building a digital event aggregator platform. Our goal is to offer the ultimate experience for organizers to profile their events, and for users to find events. My role in this company is head of business.

Riseapp took over after our previous developers to continue development on the mobile app version of Happens. Riseappss have also built a new backend for us, as well as a web-application for our service.

Our initial goal was to do some changes in development on our app, but due to good service we continued using Riseapps for further development.

Our company did a comprehensive search to find high quality developers for a good price. We made a listing on Upwork and interviewed five potential vendors before choosing Riseapps.

Our mobile app is written in React native, so we hired Whatsapp for their expertise on React programming. We wanted to develop basic functionality such as interactive program features and interactive map features. We also have strict criterias for design and responsive interaction on our app, which was met by Riseapps.

Riseapps have a very large team with different expertise. We were assigned a team of five people, one python-expert for backend, one react native developer for frontend, one react developer for web-application, one UX designer and one project manager.

The mobile app “Happens – all events in Norway” is available on Appstore and Google play. The web-application is available on www.happens.host

The workflow has been very effective. We’ve been using Slack, and the response-time there have never been more than an hour as far as I can remember, and we’ve been sharing thousands of messages.

I think Riseapps is a very serious and professionally driven company. The management have impressed my with very good structure, ability to make very detailed plans, and discover edge cases did we didn’t see ourselves. They also offer very clean designs, and very responsive applications which creates a good feel and experience for the user.

The only thing that was not perfect was that we went a bit over budget. It’s a shared blame, as things got more complicated than firstly planned, and from working on several software development project I also know how normal this is. It’s also a natural consequence of working hourly in stead of having a fixed price, so I’m not sure if its possible to improve. Our experience with Riseapps have been more or less perfect. I would highly recommend and will most definitely use them again.

The team at Riseapps can handle complex projects. From project management to back and front end development, Riseapps has technical expertise which surpasses other development shops. With my project, I went through several developers before I found Riseapps. They were able to visualize what needed to be done, implement a unique algorithm and create a functioning on-demand mobile application that no one else I worked with previously was able to complete. Highly recommend!

We had a good experience with RiseApps from start to finish. There were a few bumps on the road but we were able to figure them out easily. They were able to execute technically on all of our requirements and did a specially good job with iOS.
Pros :
  • They had the technical skills we were looking for to execute our project
  • Great team to work with. They were an extension of our team in New York City.
Cons :
  • More detailed and clearer communications during sprints and presentations of deliverables.

Executive Interview
Vladlen Shulepov
Vladlen Shulepov
CEO, Riseapps
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
Hi, my name is Vladlen, and I am the CEO at Riseapps. Our team is deeply involved in mobile and web development with a focus on healthcare, wellness, tourism, and entertainment. We are striving to facilitate our client's business growth by creating stellar apps.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
I always had a dream to create interesting and valuable projects, not just standard applications that were flooding the market at that time. Back then, such top-notch industries as AI and IoT were only starting out, and I was glad to witness exciting use cases of applications that were reshaping human lives. I also wanted to be a part of the high-tech future and create technologically advanced applications at the level people would actually like using. Thus, we at Riseapps focus on developing apps that provide our clients with great value.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/outsourcing?
The power of any company is in its team, their knowledge, enthusiasm, and personalities. We are not an exception. We gain synergy from the teamwork. That's why we have chosen to be an in-house development company. All of us are located in one office to facilitate better communication within the team, which helps brainstorm ideas and build apps faster.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
• Riseapps is building projects from A to Z, leading an app-to-be through all stages of the product lifecycle, from design to QA.
• Our development team is highly professional; some of the senior engineers have 15+ years of development experience.
• We pay a lot of attention to quality assurance as it is the moment of truth for any final product. If an app isn’t responding properly or doesn’t perform on a predefined set of devices, it will hardly ever be used. That’s why we have invested in a full range of devices covering the two most widespread platforms, iOS and Android. As far as I know, not all companies can afford to purchase a lot of devices to perform testing only.
• Riseapps is an engaged team. We approach every project as if it’s our personal thing, always responsible, and trying to surpass clients’ expectations.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
Riseapps team has experience working with different industries, including automotive, traveling, restaurant business, security. Currently, we are focusing on healthcare, fitness and wellness, tourism, and entertainment, where we have a lot of successful cases.
We offer our clients all the knowledge we gained and thereby help them build valuable projects that help them reach their goals faster. Riseapps is building long-lasting relationships with its clients by offering highly qualified development services, and I feel proud today to say that more than 70% of clients are repetitive.
Moreover, it’s incredibly satisfying to read pleasant clients’ reviews here on GoodFirms.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
There are several parameters to comply with when approaching mobile development. One such key metric is a platform for your mobile applications. Should it be iOS, Android, or maybe both? Will your target audience use only smartphones or tablets too? Will you need to scale up your app on other devices in the future? All these decisions significantly influence the time estimations.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
According to our experience, the time for development varies from app to app. Some applications take more time when it comes to the frontend, as it might involve complicated design, animation, etc., others. The backend with a lot of APIs, connected services, e.g., Twilio (for chats), Stripe (for payments), scalability features, etc., also require a good amount of development time.

Sometimes frontend and backend complexities are similar, so they require almost equal time.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
I'd say the key parameter is your target audience, their location, interests, their platform preferences, and so on. Users of your apps are those who are defining what platforms and what devices to target. Based on your audience location, you can determine what platform types prevail. For instance, if your target audience is living in Africa, chances are you will build your apps for Android, as it is the most widespread platform there. If you consider the USA market, you can find that the two platforms are dominating that space. Thus, you can shift to cross-platform app development.
Which platform do you suggest your clients begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
The platform choice for your app totally depends on the behavior of your target audience and the platforms your target audience is using daily. If the dominating platform is Android, the choice is obvious. If your target market is divided between iOS and Android in a similar percentage, the best solution might be to consider cross-platform development.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
If you want to create platforms for iOS and Android, you can follow several directions: opt for native development with Swift (iOS) and Kotlin (Android), or go for cross-platform development. Building native apps brings a lot of advantages: in-app speed, the opportunity to implement sophisticated animation, the ability to use native libraries., etc.
Cross-platform development, in turn, is faster than native. It's also less expensive, and one code covers two platforms. However, it won't be a perfect choice for super custom solutions with complicated animation. Nevertheless, cross-platform frameworks are evolving and offering more and more opportunities.
As of today, I'd recommend choosing cross-platform development for start-ups, as you can target both iOS and Android. And releasing an MVP model won't cost much. For cross-platform development, you can take a closer look at Flutter and React Native.

If performance, animation, and speed are your top priority, the best choice is to go for native development. Sometimes the selection is made by technologies you are implementing, e.g., an app with AR, VR functionality will demand high performance, leading to native development.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
Actually, it's rather simple. We take into account project features, target platforms, custom design, or standard design. These, in turn, help us determine the expertise and the number of developers that will be involved in the project to estimate the scope of work and the development time. All things considered, we can define the cost and negotiate with our client.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions, etc.)
Our team is result-oriented: first work, then payment. Thus, we are working on a pay per milestone basis. All work on the project is planned according to milestones and sprints (2 weeks). After every sprint, we present the work to our client for payment.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Riseapps is working on projects of different scales. Thus, budgets can vary significantly. Our team is always on the way to optimize budget and work so that we can recommend the best solution for our client's needs. I'd suggest that the basic budget requirement for a reliable app with a good backend and custom design, for both iOS and Android, will be around $25k-$30k.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2018?
Last year we had a lot of exciting projects in various industries of different scales. Thus, the price range varied from $25k-$30k to more than $100k.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
As per the current market trend, the best business model is to build subscription-based mobile apps, where users subscribe to content during a predefined period. There is one more interesting model – SaaS software. It is similar to a subscription model. According to this model, you give access to software to different customers based on their requests, and then you bill them on a monthly, quarterly, yearly basis.

The best thing about these models is that they can guarantee constant cash flow.
