We are a custom software development company that specializes in niche technologies in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, Embedded Systems and Internet of Things, Test Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, E-commerce, GIS, Cloud, Mobility, Accessibility, and more for industries as diverse as Sports and Entertainment, Education and Training, Healthcare, etc., across the globe. Since 2007, I have served as the CEO of Travancore Analytics (TA). What is the story behind starting this company?
Well, the journey of Travancore Analytics began 15 years back as a passion project with just the three of us laying the groundwork for a company that brought together technology and innovation. The engineers in us believed that technology was the answer to solving almost any problem, and we set out to bring a whiff of fresh air into the technology and services landscape, providing excellent services, and thus reshaping the digital world with novel approaches. We started with a small team of 6 employees and have since expanded to employ more than 300 employees. We have also expanded our reach to customers and geographies. Right now we serve more than 40 customers in 9 countries. In terms of technologies, our company has evolved from its roots in Industrial Automation to become a technology hub for services and solutions in AR/VR, IoT, Embedded, Test Automation, AI/ML, and more.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
A crucial part of our business model relies on our in-house team to complete the vast majority of our projects. For the most part, our organization already has a specialized team in place to deal with the requirements we get. Since we have a skilled in-house team, we seldom engage in outsourcing. To a very little extent, we have engaged third-party service providers by co-locating them with our own team, with a view to expanding operations and scaling.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
It is no secret that the world today is increasingly dictated by technology, and tech companies all over the world are looking for new ways to get a grip on the competition and tap into opportunities. Regarding our company, we have a strategic blueprint and a roadmap for the technologies and solutions we work on. Our current focus is on AR and VR technology. In AR/VR, we have specialized in every possible aspect and use case, and we've even established a footing in the Metaverse sector with our own metaverse platform, Meta Reality Space. Similarly, we are continually growing and upgrading ourselves in the fields of Embedded and IoT, AI/ML, Cloud, and Mobility, among others. Moreover, we also make it a point to always look into the latest and upcoming technologies to build capabilities to handle them from the outset. Regardless of the type of technology and solution, we consider client satisfaction and quality of services first. Our satisfied clientele is our greatest asset, and our team’s dedication to providing the finest solutions with meticulous attention to detail makes us stand out even in the face of insurmountable competition.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
To begin with, our clients come from a diverse spectrum of industries. Sports, media, entertainment, education, and training are some of our core areas of expertise and customers for Augmented and Virtual Reality. Nonetheless, we have clients in retail, shopping, hospitality, tourism, human resources, and other areas that use AR and VR. Another key industry that we frequently service is healthcare. We work with Space Research Organizations, Defence, Manufacturing, Consumer Electronics, and other sectors in the field of Embedded Systems. In the IoT market, automation is our key vertical. We work hand in hand with the customer and are really not limited to a single vertical; we have our hands in a variety of businesses and technologies.
Yes, the great majority of our clients are repetitive. We frequently have many active engagements with the same client and maintain long-term relationships with the vast majority of them. Most of the clients who have engaged us in the past have come back to us for further work on the same project or have expanded their business with us into a number of other endeavors. We do have customers who have been with us ever since we started. When we look at the numbers, about 60% of our customers return with new projects, while we make 40% of our progress with new customers every year.
Please share some of the services that you offer for which clients approach you the most for?
Currently, AR and VR technologies garner the most interest. As a player in the XR market since 2014 and a pioneer in the XR market with a dedicated XR lab, the majority of our clients are in the XR market. From customers wishing to construct VR learning and training simulations to AR-based shopping and Retail solutions to businesses seeking a presence in our own Metaverse platform, Meta Reality Space, our AR/VR solutions are able to accommodate a wide range of needs. Our Augmented Reality and Virtual reality services are in high demand among our customers in Training, Education, Entertainment, Healthcare, Hospitality, Tourism, and other industries. Another field of interest is Embedded and IoT, many leading organizations come to us in this domain, especially in the area of automation. Cloud and data are other areas of interest from which we attract a significant number of clients.
What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer’s needs and requirements?
Speaking of satisfied customers, we are quite pleased with the level of involvement we have with each and every one of them. The fulfillment of their hopes and aspirations is a top priority, and we see to it that this happens. We put in a lot of effort to ensure they have access to the most effective solutions that will benefit them in the long run, especially in the rapidly developing digital market. Our clients are always satisfied with the results we deliver, and they have raved about us on review sites like Good firms and Clutch. Consistent good ratings on these sites are a testament to the excellent service we deliver to our clientele.
Client management begins with understanding the customer's needs, even if the client has little idea of the exact needs. Then, we make sure they have all they need to make well-informed choices. We put ourselves in the client's shoes so as to provide them with a solution that will last and be to their benefit over the long haul. We provide the customer with a clear picture of what's going on in the project by providing them with an accurate roadmap of all the procedures and ensuring they know what to expect as the project develops. Transparency is also a principle we firmly uphold. We establish trustworthy partnerships with our customers by being transparent about everything from price to terms of service to the duration of our agreements. We also make sure to offer a variety of customer care channels, so that our clients may get in touch with our staff and receive consistent updates and support on any topic.
What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
Our clients are our most valuable assets, and we strongly believe that. We are ready to go above and beyond for our clients. From constantly attending to all the queries that we encounter from the very first stage of client interaction to the very end of the project release, we make sure that our clients are satisfied with the services delivered by our teams. As a means of easing communication between the customer and the development teams, we have incorporated Business Analysts into each of our projects. In doing so, we hope to streamline the project management process for the benefit of our clients and be better equipped to address their questions and concerns as they arise.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
When it comes to payment methods, it all depends on the clients and the type of projects we work on. For several of our projects, we used the Fixed Cost Fixed Scope approach, in which the scope is fixed and the estimation is based on that fixed scope. In this payment model, making changes to scope or deadlines is hard except when there is room for renegotiation of price. Usually, this model fits very small projects not exceeding 2-3 person months.
We also work on the Time and Material model, where the features and enhancements are not set in stone but rather are subject to regular additions. In the midst of development, it is possible to make adjustments to the project's scope, needs, and cost, as well as to establish new priorities and obtain updated cost estimates.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Typically, we accept projects based on our skills and those that fulfill our minimum budget criteria, which is $15,000. However, for a few companies attempting to establish a presence in this industry, we have sometimes disregarded the minimum budget criterion in order to offer them an effective solution.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2021?
The estimated price range of the projects we have worked on in 2021 is between $50,000 and $1,000,000.
Where do you see your company in the next 10 years?
The technology landscape is continually developing, but we have equipped ourselves with the latest tools and highly-skilled teams ready to tackle any technological breakthrough that may occur. When it comes to exploring emerging technologies, we have never been hesitant. In fact, we carry out extensive research and understanding of every new technology that's been released. Our recent achievements in AR/VR technologies, the Metaverse, AI/ML, and other domains demonstrate this. In 10 years, having explored everything from AR/VR/MR to Metaverse, we envisage ourselves as an industry leader in XR technologies. We also hope to push the boundaries in Data Analytics using AI & ML, two fields in which we believe we can make significant contributions, both conceptually and practically. We also see tenfold growth in our home technologies like embedded, IoT, and cloud.
