Executive Interview of 2muchcoffee
Dmitriy Melnichenko
CEO
Kindly share your feedback on how GoodFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.
One of the main sources where potential partners can check and confirm our experience and portfolio cases.
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
2muchcoffee itself is Bruce Lee of Javascript with cumulative 200 000+ hours spent on the application development. We provide product development services for startups and big brands. We provide custom solutions using Agile software development and transform your vision into high-quality digital products. I’m CEO/CTO of 2muchcoffee team.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
Probably my previous experience in huge corporations, I saw the demand for the quality software development services as well as was shocked about the low quality of existing products on the market that made me confident that there is a huge market demand on development services worldwide. this was the start of my personal career as a web developer.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
We provide full-cycle inhouse product development services. Starting from the discovery phase both product and tech, going to complete UI/UX and ending with product development. We have our internal school for the persons who are willing to become a web/mobile development. The educational process takes 4-5 months before we can provide the developer access to the onboarded project. We have inhouse frontend and backend developers (usually they are full stack) as well as a team of UI/UX designers. In case the client needs additional services like PPC, crowed marketing, inbound or outbound marketing or SEO services we have a number of vendors whom we can recommend.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
It’s all about our team members and their past experience. Our PM team has product development and business development expertise in different industries and was involved in the development of startups from the ground up. From the very beginning, we ask tones of questions about the idea and the application value, and based on the answers from the customers can provide suggestions on the MVP and the product features itself. We always start from the discovery phase and moving forward to the final tech specification fo the project.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
Our main niche focus is Education (e-learning) applications, Fitness apps, SaaS, and custom CRM/CMS systems (they are both web and mobile). 68% of the application we’ve been a technical partner in 2019 was from the EdTech niche.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
It is obvious that we need the exact tech specs, finalized designs of the application to be able to provide the exact estimation. But our background says that it all depends on the customer. The customer with a clear view, proper background, and understanding of the final goal will receive the live app much faster.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
It all depends on the application and eagerness of the client to shorten the MVP scope and go on the market to be able to get the first users’ feedbacks and try to adopt the app to the market needs. Minimal app development duration was 2 months for both frontend and backend.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
We strongly recommend Ionic Framework in case a customer needs an application for both web and mobile interfaces. It can totally save the application cost having one code base for all versions of the application. In case we see that the application has huge scaling potential and will be totally mobile we will surely advise choosing React Native. Our vision is simple - one codebase will cut the development time and the product will appear on the market faster.
Which platform do you suggest your clients begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
I’m a die-hard fan of iOS just because all Apple products are one eco-system. But it actually depends on the market where the customer is planning to launch the products, we need to check the preferences of the audience of the exact market and start with the most demanded platform.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
In the early stages, we strongly recommend a Hybrid because of well-known benefits (it’s easier to hit the market, one code base instead of three, cost-effectiveness). We do recommend native IOS/Android development when a customer has special needs, something like Snapchat filters, direct interaction with the device resources, etc.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
The scaling potential of the application is the king. Depending on the customers’ plans we need to plan the proper architecture of the future application. Additional factors are user management flow, monetization flow, gamification flow, etc.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
Biweekly invoicing structure with accurate timesheets and feedback on the communication flow. We are working on time and material basis providing upfront the estimation of the project, in 89% in case there were no changes in the structure of the application and no additional features were provided by the customer the initial estimation is equal to the final one. Throughout 2019 only 9% of the customers didn’t make any changes in the confirmed tech specifications.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
The minimal budget we are considering to start the project is around 30 000 USD, from our background this is the minimal amount to be able to deliver MVP to the market.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2019?
Between 30 000 USD and 500 000 USD.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
Subscriptions and Sponsorships generated the most revenue for our existing partners.
