About the Project: 

Plant Provenance is a web platform designed for plant professionals and enthusiasts to build trusted collections of seeds and plants. The platform combines social networking features with a provenance verification system, enabling users to document plant origins, validate lineage through peer confirmation, and identify reliable suppliers based on community feedback.

The key challenge was to design a platform that could both attract new users and nurture a niche community of like-minded collectors, breeders, and growers. The client needed a dual-purpose product: a landing experience to drive interest and registrations, and a robust certification system for verifying the origin and quality of plants.

Additional priorities included:

• Building a scalable relational database to manage complex entity relationships (e.g. seed → plant → origin chain)

• Developing a user-driven rating and validation mechanism for provenance proof

• Enabling monetization via subscriptions and in-app purchases

• Creating a social environment that encourages interaction and reputation-building

Results Achieved:

We developed a community-centric platform with two functional pillars:

1. Landing and onboarding flow to engage potential users

2. Certification module to allow registered members to create, validate, and share detailed plant and seed profiles

Users can link their items to parent plants, confirm provenance via peer validation, and generate personalized digital certificates. A transparent supplier rating system was also implemented, helping users make informed sourcing decisions.

The platform architecture supports future scaling and monetization through tiered subscriptions and one-time purchases.

The company faced inefficiencies in order handling, lacked centralized access to orders, and had no unified database for clients and deliveries. Customers also had limited visibility and control over their order status.

Results Achieved:

We developed a web-based Order Management System (OMS) that centralized data across Areas, Sites, Tanks, Clients, and Orders.

The new platform provides full visibility into the order lifecycle, enables clients to place and track requests independently, and simplifies internal operations through a unified system.

As a result, ScanBio now benefits from improved order efficiency, better customer experience, and more streamlined communication across all service points.
