Retail

About the Client

The customer is a Switzerland-based company, member of the Swiss Weighing Association, who is the market leader in developing products for digital weight applications for retail, warehouse, dispensing and storage systems, waste disposal vehicles.

Objective

To assist the client’s team with the development of a set of digital weight applications.

Solution

The first introduction with the Client happened at Hannover Messe conference which Altabel Group attended in 2022.

By that time the client had a couple of almost fully implemented digital weight applications. However, they wanted to develop a universal state machine for them based on C/C++, which would be able to change its states depending on internal and external events. The internal events mean the events from the functioning of the state machine, the external ones - the events from peripheral equipment (sensors, cameras, detectors, etc).

Based on the requirements, Altabel Group preselected and, as soon as the customer interviewed and approved, assigned a Solution Architect / software and firmware  engineer, with 15+ years of experience in C / C ++. The allocated specialist was also a research associate at the Scientific Research Institute of Applied Physical Problems, so he was a great asset for the project.

The contract was signed under the Time-and-Material model of cooperation with the focus on full-time long-term collaboration.

Altabel specialist was mainly involved in the following projects:

✔️ The application which allows to determine the stock levels of all containers using scales and sends them to a cloud server. The system collects the stocks of the store fully automatically and informs about each individual material withdrawal with time, number of articles and consumers. Its modular design also allows the system to be used in mobile containers or as a "cashier-less" store;

✔️ The solution for a cupboard suitable for distributed and consignment stocks, which determines removal or return of material with the help of smart weightening. The system collects the stock levels completely automatically and informs about each individual material withdrawal with time, number of articles and consumers.

While working on the project, Altabel Team has resolved the challenge that has been actually one of the main pains of the client - to create a universal core for several projects. With an inaccurate approach, the state machine could turn out to be quite complex, overloaded and unstable. It was also necessary to take into account and create many different structures.

Result

The client was satisfied with the result, as well as with the approach and communication of the dev team, so they prolonged the cooperation and assigned the specialist to the development of another solution - POC/solution for weighing a vehicle while driving which increases road safety and lifetime of road infrastructure.

About the Client

A European IT company offering an affordable and user-friendly platform that combines open-source hardware with modern cloud-based solutions to enable automation of smart technologies in homes, buildings, and communities.

Objective

The customer partnered with Altabel to rebuild, modernize and support their existing mobile application for smart home control. The main goals were to:

  • Improve app performance and speed
  • Update the UI/UX to a more modern, user-centric design
  • Introduce new smart home features and integration capabilities

Solution

To meet the requirements, the Altabel team selected React Native to build a cross-platform app for both iOS and Android, supporting mobile and tablet versions.

At the initial stage, our Business Analyst worked closely with the customer to gather requirements and define user stories. Our design team proposed several UI concepts, and the final version was selected with the client’s input. Since then, the app has undergone a full rebranding, and our designer continues to work on ongoing design improvements to constantly enhance the user experience.

The resulting application delivers a clean, intuitive interface and reliable smart home functionality. Key features include:

  • Creating a custom dashboard with quick access to favorite and frequently used devices
  • One-touch control to turn off all lights when leaving the house
  • Intuitive management of room devices, thermostats, and shutters
  • Searching devices by category (e.g., all active outlets or thermostats)
  • Changing room images and selecting themes (light or dark)
  • Multilanguage support

The client also offers various package extensions and integrations, allowing users to tailor the system to their needs and manage everything from one central app.

Result

The app, now rebranded and modernized, was successfully published on App Store and Google Play, and continues to receive regular updates and improvements from our team , including ongoing UX/UI design enhancements.

In addition to maintaining the mobile application, the Altabel team is also working on the redesign and rebuilding of the client’s web portal. This portal serves as the central hub for managing all connected devices from smartphones, tablets, or desktop environments. Every device could be connected to it to create a true total solution for your own project or home. If the user's technology can communicate and the third party is open to communication, it can be integrated into the system. The user can consult the system on any device: smartphone, tablet or computer. This way it is possible to have control over the techniques from a distance.

Alongside this, our team is developing several additional web applications to support and extend the client’s ecosystem.
