Kindly share your feedback on how GoodFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.
GoodFirms has given our company an opportunity to proudly display referrals and testimonies from some of our most highly regarded relationships. It allows similar organizations to discover our team of experts when they’re seeking help to build new products and platforms.
Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the organization.
Cuttlesoft is a creative product development company that helps its clients achieve their business goals through researching, designing, and developing software that users love.

Whether you’re fundraising, scaling, expanding markets, or planning for a 10x exit - our team aligns your business goals with your users’ most important needs.
We meet you where you are, and help you get to where you want to be.
What is the story behind starting this company?
I met my co-founder, Frank, in college. Frank already had a fairly diverse background before returning to complete his Computer Science degree. When we met, Frank had already been a business owner and was working as a software consultant for a national firm.

So when Frank asked me to turn down offers for engineering roles in Silicon Valley and Seattle to stay back and start a company – I had little incentive to listen to him. Now I realize it’s the best decision I ever made.

Having the opportunity to start Cuttlesoft gave me the chance to create the company I wanted to work at. It allowed me to be employee number 1, instead of 1 million and 1. It gave me the agency to create a workplace, culture, and environment that grows the kind of engineers I want to be, and the kind of engineers I want to work with.

Now, Cuttlesoft thrives in that environment. One that’s creative, product-focused, and innovative. The muscles we train are as varied as our clients and their industries – something you don’t find at many places. This is why we had to make it ourselves. We strive to work as a team. To learn, grow, and continuously deliver the highest quality work – our best work.

Cuttlesoft prioritizes people and culture, which means we’ve rejected growth by means of models like offshore augmentation. We’ve maintained our determination to build a team of people that embody our core values and help us to grow the company over years, not months.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
Our team is entirely in-house and US-based.

The world doesn’t need another app development company, which is why we don’t make apps – we grow businesses.

The world needs Cuttlesoft because we look at more than just the project’s requirements. We live at the intersection of technology, business objectives, and amazing user experiences.

Our team builds beautifully designed and scalable business solutions for the web, mobile, IoT, and the cloud.
How does your company differentiate itself from the competition?
We are the only product development company led by a woman and Python Core Developer. I’m also the release manager for Axios – a JavaScript HTTP client downloaded nearly 16 million times last month.

Thanks to these accomplishments in open-source and through my leadership, Cuttlesoft is one of the world’s most diverse full-stack development teams capable of taking on any software project.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
Cuttlesoft takes an agnostic approach to technology and as result, we’ve developed a broad portfolio of client industries.

Our work with clients prior to seed-stage focuses on product development that answers specific business validations and questions of product-market fit. In these relationships, we’re helping develop novel technology alongside a business plan. Successful outcomes are acquisition, go-to-market, usability testing, and market-fit validation.

When we enter a partnership with an organization that has passed their seed round or even an early series of fundraising – the goals change. Then it might be about accelerating the software development of an existing engineering team or developing a product for a specific platform. From this stage, Cuttlesoft clients have gone on to raise millions of additional capital and some have even exited for several multiples on the initial investment.

We’re different because we look at the connection of your business goals and technology requirements. We help you build the right products because we don’t lose sight of the business objectives.
Please share some of the services that you offer for which clients approach you the most for?
We work with founders, product leaders, and engineering peers.
Specific technologies include:
  • Python/Django
  • JavaScript/React
  • Ruby/Ruby on Rails
  • iOS: Swift and React Native
  • Android: Java, Kotlin, and React Native
  • AWS, GCP
  • Kubernetes
  • Docker
  • PostgreSQL
What is your customer satisfaction rate according to you? What steps do you take to cater to your customer’s needs and requirements?
We understand that sometimes trust and communication are more valuable than attributes like price and qualifications. So first, we try to understand what makes an ideal partner for any prospective client, and then we explain how our process fosters trust, confidence, and a long-term working relationship.

We take great pride in the fact that clients trust us with their product, money, and customer experiences. And we believe that it's our responsibility to return the favor in the form of honesty and insight. One way we do this is to share detailed project status information. I encourage you to ask about our method for Project Performance Tracking.
What kind of support system do you offer to your clients for catering to their queries and issues?
We use tools like Notion (a project wiki) and Jira Service Desk to communicate and iterate over any service requests and issues that arise for clients from day one of development to every day in production.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We bill entirely by time and materials and offer competitive weekly pricing.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2020?
Cuttlesoft is the right technology partner for you if your project requires premiere on-shore development performed by senior-level engineers.

In 2020, our company completed projects nearing $1 Million in total costs and maintained software for organizations that included a range of $4000 to $10,000 per month.

Review Summary

We, Hunt a Killer, were on shopify/recharge, pushing the limits of that platform. We desired further customizations that were not possible on either platform. We hired Cuttlesoft to build out a custom ecommerce platform using chargebee to give us better control over the checkout and onboarding user experience.

From our first engagement, they assumed complete ownership of the work product and felt like an extension of our own team. They not only built the product we wanted, they truly understood our business and helped us build the product that we needed. One such example was address auto complete on our checkout pages. This not only helped our customers checkout faster, it increased conversions.

Cuttlesoft enabled us to scale up a highly talented team to build out our solution and then we were able to scale down as the solution became live. The amount of money, effort and overhead needed to support a team like Cuttlesoft would have cost 4x our final bill with Cuttlesoft. They brought the whole team, experienced developers, testers and managers at a fraction of the cost. Additionally, they worked as true extension of our team.

What service was provided as part of the project?

Software Development, Web Designing (UI/UX)

What is it about the company that you appreciate the most?

Every project has issues, they alerted me of any problems, brought solutions and worked quickly to rectify each situation. Their level of transparency felt like they were a part of our own team.

What was it about the company that you didn't like which they should do better?

They should take complete ownership of meeting management - agenda, meeting minutes and scheduling. We originally tried to own it ourselves but Cuttlesoft was more organized and the project went smoother when they were managing each meeting.

Review Summary

Cuttlesoft was responsible for developing a web crawler that could gather data from various websites and compile that information into a standard format. We selected them because of their reputation and a recommendation from my professional network. They created a simple script to crawl websites and compiled the information in a standardized format for my team to run analytics. The project was simple and managed through a few short calls and emails. We expanded the scope upon completion of a successful pilot. I was impressed with the speed and simplicity of the solution.
