Technologies: Serenity BDD, Azure DevOps, AWS (AutoScaling, EC2, ECS, Fargate, RDS, SES, SQS, Dynamo, Load Balancer, ECR, Api Gateway, SNS, Lambda), Terraform, Docker, NodeJS, Python, Angular

Goal: Value generation in technology areas with DevOps and quality assurance practices.

Devco achievement:  We defined a set of standard workflows based upon the technologies and conditions of the equipment. An increase in test automation coverage was achieved. At the onset of the project the automation was 75% and increased to more than 93%, and its use increased by 50 times (X50).  Additionally the value delivery was increased by 10 times (X10).

CASE STUDY

Devco managed to improve deployment times by implementing DevOps: Upon the opening of the project the teams released versions 1 time every 3 months. Today the releases  go out twice a week. Additionally, the recovery time from failures was significantly reduced from a window of 5 hours down to 30 minutes. The applications are completed  with superior quality due to all the types of tests that are applied.

This company had the great challenge of making improvements in its value generation process in its technological programs relying on DevOps practices.

Devco was selected as one of the Strategic Partners to carry out this mission. Together we were able to define standard workflows depending on the technologies and conditions of the equipment, thus facilitating the assimilation and global adoption of practices such as continuous integration, continuous delivery, continuous tests, static code analysis and continuous testing of all the company's equipment.

Devco Services: DevOps, Mobile Test Automation

Technologies:  Jenkins, Artifactory, AWS Fargate, MacStadium, Sonarcloud, Docker, Fastlane, Jenkins Template Engine,  Appium, Kobiton.

Goal: Quality improvement for deployments to mobile stores

Devco achievements:  At a Financial Start-Up Devco moved from an average of 24 issues caused by erroneous deployments to 1 issue a year on average. In-store error resolution times are typically very high (2 or 3 days for iOS), therefore an error in production could affect the application for several days in a row.

Additionally, we improved the deployment capacity, going from 1 release every 2 weeks to an updated frequency of 2 times a week.  Automated test coverage at the functional level went from 0% to 45% covering critical application flows, and we trained 75% of the base team to ensure that 100% of the teams that previously solely performed manual tests could execute test automation in the software development life cycle.

CASE STUDY

The Company had a specific key goal to improve its software value generation workflow so that it was reliable and enabled continuous delivery. Mobile applications have an extra challenge due to  an immediate rollback being difficult, since store times are defined by a third party and are not controllable by the team. (Hours for Android and days for iOS).

Devco led the way by automating standard workflows within the  technology and supported by test automation to deliver expected reliability. A culture of Continuous Evolution was also enabled in the process and today this financial startup manages to deliver value continuously with a decrease in production incidents measuring close to 90%.

Devco Services: Automated E2E testing, DevOps.

Technologies:  Serenity, Gradle, Cucumber y Azure DevOps.

Goal: Improve Quality area and automation processes, raising the standard that they previously had in the company.

Devco Achievement: We were able to enhance automation, generating the enhanced  value below.

  • At engagement, automation coverage was 75% and increased to more than 93%
  • 73% of the total scenarios were automated (the rest can only be manual)
  • The technical debt was eliminated 100%, achieving greater stability in the project.

CASE STUDY

This Company looked to Devco for ongoing guidance  throughout the project to ensure that the delivery of the test automation processes were implemented as accurately as possible. The Devco Team became embedded within the teams for this restructuring of automation, verifying compliance with best practices and that the construction and execution of the automations were of significant value.

Utilizing a collaborative approach, Devco implemented automated web tests, reducing the target they had.  Execution time initially took from 6 - 7 hours to perform testing.  Devco was able to reduce execution time to 3 hours.  The company  had an inefficient automation process defined, and  because they did not use it and the tests that were carried out were manual, updating the automation proved extremely valuable to the organization.  When Devco initially took on this project, the best practices were evaluated, an analysis was carried out, and assessment  of which tests should be automated was taken into account.  With automation of those tests came additional value and the regression time was decreased from 15-30 days down to 5 days.

Technologies: Java, Angular, JUnit

Goal: Redefine the reservation application of non-productive environments according to the client's requirements and based on best practices and development procedures.

Devco Achievement: The entire architecture and infrastructure of the web application and its functionality were defined, and then were deployed in 2 environments. The vulnerabilities were reduced by 50% compared to the code initially received and the bugs were eliminated 100%.

CASE STUDY

This company required a development environment for an application for non-production environments and it needed to be redefined because the architectural guidelines being utilized were different from those that the company required.

Simultaneously while making the adjustments,  guidelines were created and implemented for the scheduling of development and test sessions and other complementary environments to address incidents in non-production environments and for maintenance windows scheduling.

Regarding the technical enhancements, Devco and the Customer achieved:

  • Definition of the new architecture and identification of improvement of legacy code.
  • Creation of a repository with specifics baseline and  respective pipelines for continuous integration and deployment in development, certification and production environments.
  • Modification of the scheduling pipeline and updating of environmental templates to address the requirement for the application to have a deployment per environment associated with a configuration profile.  These were updated and carried out by the Devops team, once contextualized by Devco based upon the specification of the need.
  • Carrying out automated deployment of development and certification of environments. Full use of the application was achieved by authentication through Azure ADP.
  • Implementation and modifications of parameters within the code necessary for the new architecture. Improvements were made at the code level taking Sonar's suggestions (For suggestions that resulted in significant impact and modifications, it was decided not to intervene and keep them as legacy code.)

Action to define the necessary procedures encompassed and resulted in:

  • Definitions and feedback sessions with impacted teams.
  • Contextualization sessions.
  • Flow requests for incident reporting and requests for masked production data.

Additionally, applications that require automated monitoring to validate their status and the generation of alerts for possible failures have been identified.

All of the aforementioned steps were implemented with the technical capacity of our Devco team in alliance with the Company's core IT team, while seeking to guarantee good software development practices and the defining of processes that were updated and adjusted to address the initial need and the continuous improvement of the operation in progress.
