Executive Interview of Flatlogic

Philip Daineka
CEO
Please provide your feedback on how GoodFirms has contributed to increasing your visibility among potential clients.
GoodFirms has helped Flatlogic get noticed by potential clients. The platform’s easy-to-use listings made it simple for us to show what we do and reach the right people. It’s been a useful tool for connecting with those interested in our services.
Please introduce your company and describe your role within the organization.
We’re Flatlogic, and we help businesses create custom web apps quickly and easily with our tool, the Flatlogic Generator. It turns ideas into web-based software in no time.
I’m Flatlogic’s CEO and founder, creating all the problems and challenges our team faces :) I also ensure our projects stay on track and keep clients and customers happy. My job is to ensure everything runs smoothly while pushing the company forward.
What inspired the founding of your company, and what is the story behind its inception?
Flatlogic started because I saw how slow and complicated building custom software could be. After working as a software engineer for a company called Exadel, I decided to try something on my own but wasn’t sure what direction to take. That’s when I found Themeforest, a marketplace where you could sell templates and plugins. I figured I could design admin dashboard templates, so I made one and submitted it—but it got rejected over and over for about six months.
Frustrated, I switched to another marketplace called WrapBootstrap, and there, my template was accepted. It started selling well, which gave me some decent income. For a couple of years, I focused on creating more templates. Meanwhile, companies began approaching me, asking if I could build custom software based on those templates. I took on those projects, which brought in additional service revenue.
At that point, I realized it was time to move from a one-man operation to a real company. That’s how Flatlogic was born. The goal was simple: make building custom software faster and easier for businesses, based on what I learned from both product sales and client work.
What are the core values and principles that drive your company's culture, and how do you ensure alignment with these values across your team?
At Flatlogic, we believe that helping others—whether it’s clients or teammates—is the key to success. When you genuinely help people, good things follow, including fair compensation. Our main values are built around this idea.
- Customer Focus: We aim to solve real problems for our clients. It’s about delivering fast and practical solutions that work.
- Transparency: We keep things open and clear, both within the team and with our clients. No hidden agendas.
- Teamwork: The company is its people. If someone lacks the right attitude or soft skills, they don’t fit here. We need a team that works well together.
- Fast Delivery & Testing: We move quickly and test everything to make sure it works before it goes out the door.
To keep everyone on the same page, we lead by example, have open communication, and recognize those who live by these values. If someone’s not a good fit, we let them go, because the company only thrives when the people do.
Can you highlight some of the key achievements or milestones your company has accomplished since its inception?
Here are some key achievements for Flatlogic:
- Flatlogic Generator Launch: We introduced our flagship AI-powered tool, the Flatlogic Generator. This tool allows users to create business software quickly and efficiently, setting us apart in the software development world.
- Successful Custom Projects: We’ve delivered multiple high-impact custom solutions, like ERP systems and CRM platforms, that significantly improved our clients' operations.
- Industry Recognition: We’ve built a strong reputation with positive reviews, establishing ourselves as a trusted provider of innovative business software.
- Annual Research: We’re particularly proud of our annual web app research, which has been quoted by various sources. It highlights trends and insights, helping businesses and developers stay ahead of the curve.
As we continue to grow, we’re committed to building on these successes and pushing forward with more innovations.
Could you explain your company's business model? Do you primarily operate with an in-house team or utilize third-party vendors/outsourcing?
Flatlogic’s business model is straightforward. We combine software as a service with custom development:
- Subscriptions: Our main product is the Flatlogic Generator, a subscription-based tool. Users pay a monthly or yearly fee to access it and build web apps easily.
- Custom Projects: We also take on custom software development for clients needing specific solutions, like CRMs or ERP systems. We charge based on the project’s size and complexity.
- Team Structure: Most of the work is done by our in-house team of engineers, designers, and project managers. This keeps communication smooth and quality high. Occasionally, we bring in third-party vendors for specific tasks that require specialized skills.
In short, we handle most things internally, but we’re open to outside help when necessary. Our goal is to make building business software easy and effective.
How does your company differentiate itself from competitors in the industry?
Flatlogic stands out from competitors in a few key ways:
- Flatlogic Generator vs. Custom Development: Unlike traditional custom development, which can be slow and expensive, the Flatlogic Generator allows users to build web apps quickly and cost-effectively. It speeds up the process without sacrificing quality, giving businesses a faster path to launch.
- Code Ownership vs. Low-Code/No-Code Tools: While many low-code/no-code platforms restrict users from accessing or owning the code, Flatlogic ensures full code ownership. This means our clients can modify, scale, and maintain their apps however they like, without being tied to a specific platform.
In short, we offer the flexibility and speed of a modern tool with the freedom of owning the final product, making us a great middle ground between custom development and low-code platforms.
How would you describe the dynamics within your team, and how do you foster collaboration and teamwork to achieve common goals?
Our team at Flatlogic is a blend of tech enthusiasts, problem-solvers, and friendly faces. The dynamics here are great - everyone’s passionate about what they do and genuinely enjoys working together.
What measures do you take to support the professional development and growth of your employees? Do you offer training programs or opportunities for skill enhancement?
At Flatlogic, we believe that if you’re not growing, you’re... well, probably just stagnating. So, we make sure our team members have plenty of ways to level up:
1. Training programs
Think of it as our version of a summer camp for engineers. We offer workshops, online courses, and whatever else keeps everyone’s skills fresh and sharp. It’s like a never-ending quest for knowledge.
2. Mentorship
We match up newbies with our seasoned pros for some hands-on guidance. It’s like having a tech-savvy Yoda to help you navigate the galaxy of your career.
3. Career path development
We sit down and chat about where you want to go and how to get there. Think of it as plotting a roadmap for your career—minus the traffic jams and GPS recalculations.
In a nutshell, we’re all about keeping things fun and fostering growth. Because when you’re excited and learning, it’s not just good for you—it’s great for everyone.
Could you share a notable success story or case study that exemplifies the impact your company has had on a client's business?
Sure, one notable success story is a client for whom we built a web application from the ground up. The app monitors and warns users about emergencies like hurricanes worldwide and helps them create evacuation plans. What started as a simple MVP has now evolved into a fully operational platform. The client has successfully grown the business and attracted investments, thanks to the app we developed.

What industries do you primarily cater to, and do you have a significant percentage of repeat clients? If so, what is the ratio of repeat clients?
We primarily serve businesses that need custom software for internal use, especially in industries that require management systems like ERP, CRM, and inventory management. We also work with startups, especially those building SaaS products.
As for repeat clients, we have a strong track record—about 60-70% of our clients come back for additional projects or updates, which shows the trust and satisfaction they have with our work.
What initiatives does your company undertake to foster innovation and stay at the forefront of industry trends? Do you invest in research and development projects?
Absolutely, we invest heavily in innovation and research, which leaves no profits for the founders! We constantly improve the Flatlogic Generator to keep it at the forefront of technology. Additionally, we give back to the community through in-depth research, like our annual web app trends report, and by creating open-source products. Staying ahead of industry trends is a top priority, and we put everything we have into it.
Please share some of the most sought-after services that clients approach your company for.
Clients flock to us for services that make their lives easier and their businesses better.
First, we offer custom business software. People come to us when they need something special, much like a bespoke suit, but for their business. Whether it’s a CRM that doesn’t make you want to pull your hair out or an ERP that doesn’t require a PhD to operate, we’ve got you covered.
Secondly, our AI-powered app builder, Flatlogic Generator. Clients love it because it lets them whip up web apps quickly without needing to know a lick of code. It’s like magic, but real.
Of course, this is also UI/UX design. Clients come to us when they want their apps to look as good as they work. We make sure everything’s not just functional but also has that “wow” factor.
And finally, support. Once your software’s up and running, we stick around to keep things smooth.

How do you build and maintain strong relationships with your clients, and what mechanisms do you have in place for gathering and acting upon client feedback?
Building and keeping strong client relationships at Flatlogic is all about being approachable, responsive, and genuinely interested in success.
For example, we keep the lines open and chatty. No client ever feels like they’re shouting into the void. Whether it’s through regular check-ins, casual emails, or even the occasional meme exchange, we make sure we’re always in touch.
We also love feedback like kids love candy. We actively seek it out with surveys, follow-up calls, and just by asking, “Hey, how’s everything going?” When clients speak, we listen and then, if needed, tweak things to make sure they’re happier than a cat in a sunbeam.
Personal touch. We remember birthdays, celebrate wins, and in winter congratulate a friend with Christmas gifts. It’s all about making clients feel like they’re more than just a number on a spreadsheet.
How has your company adapted to changes and challenges in the business landscape, and what strategies have you employed to ensure resilience and sustainability?
Adapting to the ever-changing business landscape is kind of our thing. Here’s how we roll with the punches and keep things steady.
- Stay agile: We’re like the tech version of a yoga master - flexible and ready to adapt.
- Instead of fearing change, we welcome it. We keep an eye on industry trends and tech advancements so we can incorporate new ideas and tools that keep us ahead of the curve.
- Client-centric approach: We listen to our clients and adapt our services based on their feedback.
- Resilient team: We have a strong, adaptable team that can pivot and tackle new challenges head-on.
What payment structure do you typically follow when billing clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, or Pay per Milestone (phases, months, versions, etc.)?
We usually follow a combination of two payment structures: a fixed cost for the overall project and a monthly payment for ongoing support or development. This allows us to provide flexibility based on the scope and timeline of the project while ensuring the client gets continuous improvements or maintenance as needed.
Do you accept projects that meet your basic budget requirements? If yes, what is the minimum budget requirement? If no, what is the minimum budget you have worked with in the past?
Yes, we do accept projects that meet our basic budget requirements. The minimum budget we typically work with is $7,500.
Can you provide an overview of the price range (minimum and maximum) of the projects your company worked on in 2023?
In 2023, the price range of our projects varied from $7,000 to $300,000. This range depends on the complexity and scope of the project, from smaller custom solutions to large-scale, high-impact business software efforts.
What technological capabilities does your company possess, and are there any ongoing or planned investments in technology infrastructure or tools to enhance your services?
Our company has strong technological capabilities, with expertise in modern web development frameworks like React, Angular, Vue, and backend technologies such as Node.js. We specialize in building complex business applications like CRMs, ERPs, and SaaS products.
As for investments, we are always upgrading our technology infrastructure to keep Flatlogic Generator efficient and up-to-date. We continuously invest in new tools and frameworks to enhance our services and ensure that our platform remains scalable and cutting-edge. We don’t just stop at maintenance—we’re always looking ahead to what’s next in tech.
Where do you envision your company in the next 10 years? What are your long-term goals and aspirations for growth and development?
In the next 10 years, I hope Flatlogic evolves into a leading player in the world of software engineering. To shape the future of technology and make a long-term impact, we ...
