VITRUVE, a platform combining a mobile app and a VBT (Velocity-Based Training) device, aimed to help Strength & Conditioning coaches optimize athlete performance. The challenge was to create a solution that could capture precise movement data, generate adaptive training plans, monitor athlete progress, and provide a motivational system through leaderboards. Additionally, the platform had to integrate hardware data from line encoders and BLE devices in real time, while remaining intuitive for coaches and athletes.

APPROACH

Our team worked with VITRUVE to develop a comprehensive digital ecosystem:

UNIAN, one of Ukraine's largest news agencies, required a major update to its mobile applications on both iOS and Android platforms. The goal was to meet modern architectural standards and significantly enhance the app’s speed and stability for better user experience. The Android application, in particular, needed a full refactor to improve performance and usability.

APPROACH

The primary focus was on optimizing the app’s architecture to improve its speed and stability. For iOS, the application was updated to ensure it met current standards. For Android, a complete refactor was carried out to enhance the app’s performance. Key features were introduced, such as easy access to photo galleries, video content, online conferences, and an "endless" news feed. Users were also able to add articles to their favorites, switch languages, and experience an updated design, particularly on Android devices. Additionally, the Google DFP advertising platform was integrated to enhance ad management.

TECH STACK

For the iOS update, Swift was used to implement modern coding practices and improve performance. On Android, Kotlin was used after the full refactor, ensuring a more stable and responsive application. The Google DFP platform was integrated for managing advertisements across both platforms. Firebase was utilized for real-time updates and REST APIs for content delivery.

The integration of Google DFP allowed for better advertisement management, making the app both functional and revenue-generating.

We used React Native for cross-platform development, SQLite for local database storage, Geolocation APIs for location-based updates, and Redux for state management. Firebase was used for real-time updates, and local storage caching allowed offline functionality.

The app was both beautiful and practical.

We carefully planned the transition to the new API version, performing extensive testing to minimize disruption. Special attention was given to media capabilities, ensuring smooth integration of photos, galleries, videos, newscasts, and YouTube videos, as well as content from OVVA Holding's 1 + 1 Video service. The app was fully localized in two languages to cater to a broader audience, and the design was carefully optimized to ensure compatibility with both iOS 11 and iPhone X, providing a consistent user experience across different devices.

The development relied on a modern tech stack. React Native was used for cross-platform compatibility, allowing the app to run efficiently on both iOS and Android. For the backend, Node.js with Express was used to manage the API. MongoDB was selected as the database solution for its flexibility in handling large, dynamic data. i18next was implemented for seamless localization, and design mockups were created using Sketch and Figma. Git was used for version control, enabling smooth collaboration among the development team.

The application features robust media support, including the ability to display photos, photo galleries, videos, newscasts, YouTube videos, and content from OVVA Holding's 1 + 1 Video service. It offers two news display modes: one with photos and videos, and another with just text, allowing users to choose their preferred viewing experience. The app also supports iframe embedding for social media content, facilitating easy sharing and interaction. Additionally, the app’s design is fully optimized for iOS 11 and iPhone X, ensuring it looks and functions perfectly on these devices.

RESULTS

The new engine significantly improved the application’s speed and performance, resulting in faster load times and a smoother user experience. The UI/UX redesign, combined with enhanced media capabilities, led to increased user engagement. The transition to the new API was completed successfully with minimal disruption to the app’s functionality. Localization into two languages helped the app reach a larger and more diverse user base. Finally, the app’s full compatibility with iOS 11 and iPhone X ensured a seamless and consistent experience across devices.

Development of the application concepts (including its interaction with the server via API), the task was set to organize the most comfortable transition to the mobile interface for 20 million users of the service.
