Solaris is a technology company with a banking license. Solaris offers a completely digital banking-as-a-service platform to which other businesses can connect in order to offer financial services. They have mastered the technical and regulatory complexities of banking so that their clients can focus on what's really important: their customers.

What challenges did Solaris face?
Solaris needed to improve its core banking platform and modernize parts of the system to ensure better scalability.

What was the solution?

Mooncascade’s team helped Solaris bridge the hiring gap by providing a group of experienced Golang developers to work as part of their Core Banking team. We implemented extra features for SEPA transactions (credit/debit transfers; AML checks; internal transactions), built FX transactions between users’ accounts, and implemented currency exchange for 120+ currencies.

Working with Golang and AWS, Mooncascade brought the technical expertise to complement that of the internal team, helped them meet their tight delivery deadlines, and even brought a new feature set of the core system to the market 2 weeks earlier.

Retail

Eesti Loto is Estonia's national lottery operator, established to organize various games of chance, contributing to social welfare through funding public projects and initiatives. It offers diverse lottery options, including traditional draws and instant games, engaging citizens in entertainment while supporting societal development through its charitable endeavors.

What challenges did Eesti Loto face?

The Eesti Loto IT team wanted to reduce routine platform management activities in order to maximize impact to specific business goals as well as make sure every security aspect in the regulated business is covered.

What was the solution?

Mooncascade suggested an approach for deploying Eesti Loto services on Amazon Web Services (AWS), along with a robust security framework to satisfy stringent security standards and Infrastructure-as-Code principles. Subsequently, the agreed-upon solution was collaboratively implemented with the Eesti Loto IT team.

Elastic Container Service (ECS)  simplifies the deployment, management, and scaling of containerized applications. Terraform is used to deploy and maintain AWS services. AWS Security Services, including AWS Config and Security Hub keep track of assets, change history and give instant feedback against meeting requirements set by security standards.

The results

The Eesti Loto IT team can now focus on developing, deploying and maintaining services as the underlying platform is based on managed services which require only a slight attention. In addition, ECS takes care of auto scaling which helps to decrease costs. AWS Security Hub gives instant feedback in case architecture and configuration do not meet security requirements.

Agriculture

Piimaklaster MTÜ (NGO Estonian Dairy Cluster) is a cooperative organization dedicated to advancing sustainable practices in the food sector, with a particular focus on dairy value chain modernized workflows and effectivityr, with a particular focus on supporting livestock keepers through modernized workflows. The organization emphasizes activities that drive added value within the sector, such as digitalization, the development of modern workflows, and the implementation of automated, multi-party data exchange within supply chains. To address complex challenges, Piimaklaster has adopted a model of innovation collaboration, fostering forward-thinking solutions that contribute to greater efficiency, sustainability, and modernization in agriculture.

AS VIREEN is a state-owned enterprise operating under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Regional and Agricultural Affairs. The company provides collection and disposal services for animal by-products to agricultural producers and food processors. In its operations, the company adheres to modern principles and employs advanced technologies that meet all necessary social, environmental, and economic criteria.

What challenges did they face?

The process for the management and disposal of animal by-products relied heavily on manual workflows, including paper-based applications, phone calls, and local Excel files. This fragmented approach created inefficiencies, increased the risk of errors, and required significant manual effort. Furthermore, the lack of interconnected data-sharing systems in the livestock sector limited the ability to streamline operations and implement innovative solutions. Adding to these challenges, farmers were legally obligated to ensure the proper management and utilization of animal remains, making compliance with these requirements both critical and demanding. Additionally, the workflow participants were from various organizations, each operating with unconnected workflows that had been developed independently at different times, further complicating collaboration and efficiency. What was the solution?

Mooncascade partnered with Piimaklaster MTÜ and AS VIREEN to develop a fully digitalized workflow, leveraging PRIA’s (Agricultural Registers and Information Board’s) agricultural animal register databases. Mooncascade provided a comprehensive digital solution that simplified and interconnected the workflows of all participants. By digitalizing manual processes, the solution enabled, for the first time, the reuse of animal registry data without the need for redundant manual entry. This was achieved through secure, multi-directional, and multi-party data exchange.

The updated and faster declaration process enhanced daily operations for livestock keepers, VIREEN AS, and PRIA’s animal registry while significantly reducing the risk of potential errors. This innovation collaboration resulted in the creation of a paperless solution and opened new possibilities for building future external services based on PRIA’s animal registry data. This project marked a significant milestone as it introduced the first instance of secure, multi-directional, and multi-party data sharing within the livestock sector.

The solution involved

Digital Transformation:

  • Creation of a user-centric system that facilitates seamless data exchange between PRIA’s registries and VIREEN AS, enabling smooth multi-party communication among livestock keepers, PRIA’s animal registry, and VIREEN AS.
  • Integration of a tablet-compatible mobile application for VIREEN AS drivers, enabling digital route planning, animal by-product weight tracking, and efficient management of pickups and disposal logs.
  • Enhancements to VIREEN AS’s internal processes, enabling streamlined operations and reducing error risk.

Innovative Collaboration:

  • Introduction of a paperless solution and a foundation for future external services based on PRIA animal registry data.

Partnership value

Mooncascade provided Piimaklaster MTÜ and AS VIREEN with a comprehensive digital solution that transformed their workflow. By replacing manual processes with a fully integrated system, Mooncascade enhanced operational efficiency and data accuracy. This partnership not only improved day-to-day operations but also supported a more sustainable and streamlined approach to animal by-product management. In a digital nation, complying with the law should be straightforward — and Mooncascade made it simple.
